Dutas
Dutas (dutasteride) is a medication used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as enlarged prostate. It works by blocking the production of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is involved in the growth of the prostate. Dutas is available in generic form. Uses
Dutas is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men. BPH is a condition in which the prostate gland becomes enlarged, causing problems with urination. Dutas is in a class of medications called 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. It works by blocking the production of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is involved in the growth of the prostate.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Dutas include:
- decreased sex drive
- trouble getting or keeping an erection
- decreased ejaculate amount
- enlarged or painful breasts
- dizziness
- runny nose
- trouble sleeping
Precautions
Before taking dutasteride, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to finasteride; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
Interactions
Dutasteride may interact with other medications. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. During pregnancy, dutasteride should be used only when prescribed. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
