Eulexin (flutamide) is a non-steroidal anti-androgen (NSAA) medication used to treat prostate cancer. Eulexin works by binding to androgen receptors, preventing androgens from binding to these receptors. This prevents androgens from stimulating the growth of prostate cancer cells. Eulexin is typically used in combination with a GnRH agonist or surgical castration. Eulexin is available in generic form. Generic Eulexin is covered by most Medicare and insurance plans. Eulexin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. Important Information You should not use Eulexin if you are allergic to flutamide. Before taking this medicine You should not use Eulexin if you are allergic to flutamide. To make sure Eulexin is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have: liver disease; kidney disease; diabetes; a history of heart disease or heart attack; a history of stroke; high blood pressure; a history of blood clots; if you are also taking a blood thinner (warfarin, Coumadin, Jantoven); if you are also taking an insulin or oral diabetes medication; if you are also taking a "water pill" (diuretic); or if you have ever had an allergic reaction to another anti-androgen medication. Eulexin can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while you are using this medicine. Eulexin is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old. How should I take Eulexin? Take Eulexin exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Eulexin is usually taken 3 times per day with meals. You may need to take Eulexin on a full or empty stomach. Follow your doctor's instructions. Do not crush, chew, or break an extended-release tablet. Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body. Breaking the pill would cause too much of the drug to be released at one time. To take the flutamide capsule with food, open the capsule and sprinkle the medicine into a spoonful of pudding or applesauce to make swallowing easier. Swallow right away without chewing. Do not save the mixture for later use. Do not skip doses or stop using Eulexin without first talking to your doctor. Stopping suddenly may make your condition worse. If you need surgery, tell the surgeon ahead of time that you are using Eulexin. You may need to stop using the medicine for a short time. Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.
